FG trains 20k Nigerians, the Federal Government has launched the DeepTech Ready Upskilling program, aiming to train 20,000 Nigerians in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science.
This initiative
This part of the broader 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, which seeks to equip as the FG trains 20k Nigerians with cutting-edge digital skills.
While announcing the program, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized its importance in strengthening the 3MTT initiative. Additionally, he underscored that the initiative is a vital step toward positioning Nigeria as a global hub for digital innovation and talent development.

The program
by the FG trains 20k Nigerians on AI and data science with advanced technical skills in data science and AI as it prepares them for careers in this rapidly growing field. The 6-month program combines self-paced, on-site learning, and online support, offering advanced courses in data science and AI.
On who can apply,
Information on the program’s website states that the training is open to 3MTT fellows and individuals with basic to intermediate knowledge in relevant technical fields.
Other tech programs and grants
A year ago, the Ministry advanced AI in Nigeria by hosting the NAIS Workshop and releasing the National AI Strategy to drive growth, governance, and well-being.
The Ministry and Google revealed AI Fund beneficiaries, a collaboration with NCAIR to advance the AI ecosystem.
Each startup got N100M, $3.5M in Google Cloud Credits, AI tools, mentorship, and access to a global network.

The ongoing 3MTT
The program aims to build Nigeria’s technical talent backbone, driving its digital economy and global talent export.
The program began with 30,000 Nigerians (1% of 3M target), grew to 270,000 (10%), and now 90,000 more, reaching 13%.
The 3MTT program funds local training, community managers, and regional talent development, enriching individuals’ skills and local communities.
