The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed a fire outbreak at the Itamaga Plank Market in Ikorodu, Lagos State. According to a statement by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Nosa Okunbor, distress calls were received early Wednesday morning, prompting an immediate response from the Lion Squad of the Agbowa Base.

The fire, which started at approximately 4:20 AM, engulfed one of the shops in the market. A subsequent investigation revealed that the blaze was triggered by a power surge. Thanks to the swift intervention of LASEMA’s Response Team (LRT) and the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, the fire was quickly contained and subdued.

Although the shop suffered significant damage, resulting in the partial loss of goods and properties, no casualties or injuries were reported. Emergency responders secured the area and provided safety education to occupants on the proper use of electrical appliances. The fire has since been fully extinguished, and the market area has been made safe.
