Origin Tech Group is leading the Greener Hope Agriculture Mechanisation Productivity Programme (GHAPP) in collaboration with the Federal Government (FG), aiming to tackle Nigeria’s escalating food security issues.
The initiative focuses on enhancing food production and strengthening the country’s agricultural resilience by establishing mechanisation hubs across Nigeria. These hubs will provide farmers with advanced tools and technologies to maximize output and reduce waste.
Samuel Joseph Samuel, Executive Chairman of Origin Tech Group, highlighted that the program is designed to boost food production by over two million metric tonnes through strategic deployment of agricultural machinery, optimized land use, and targeted investments in production and processing.
“This Greener Hope National Agriculture Productivity Programme is set to increase food production by more than 2 million metric tonnes through cooperation with federal, state, and local governments, as well as the private sector,” Samuel said. He noted that Nigeria’s food security crisis is exacerbated by border insecurity, uncontrolled immigration, and rampant smuggling, which have disrupted traditional agricultural areas and worsened food insecurity.
“With the country facing a severe food crisis, GHAPP represents a beacon of hope, leveraging Agri-tech to build a more secure and prosperous future for Nigerians,” Samuel added. The program is a proactive response to the challenges in the agricultural sector, aligning with the strategic objectives outlined in President Tinubu’s executive order on food security.
During a recent implementation committee meeting in Abuja, Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized the program’s role in promoting agricultural mechanisation and ensuring food sufficiency nationwide. “This initiative is crucial for securing Nigeria’s food future, protecting local industries, and reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing the agro-value chain’s productivity,” Kyari stated.
The Greener Hope Agricultural Productivity Programme is part of a broader effort to foster sustainable development and economic growth in Nigeria. It aims to establish large-scale commercial farming hubs to optimize production and increase the agricultural sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s GDP.
Supported by a consortium of global partners, including funding from the Brazilian government and Deutsche Bank Group, Origin Tech Group will spearhead the implementation of the program.
