Like a gloomy nights, the whole of Nigeria expressed greive like never before. The times and seasons seems deadly as minute goes by. Tragedy struck and had a great impact on the great people of this nation. All the way from Ibadan to Anambra to Abuja, bad news seem to fill the air at a time like this.
The President of the nation understood thsi and to show his sympathy decided to cancel all event he has today.
In the early hours of this morning, food distribution was organised in Abuja and Anambra. It was sad to note that even after the awareness of what happened at Ibadan Funfair. Stampede still happened in the wo state.
The whole nation was in shock at the news of this event.
“President Bola Tinubu cancelled all his official events in Lagos today, including his attendance at the 2024 Lagos Boat Regatta in honour of the stampede victims in Abuja and Okija, Anambra State,” presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga explained
“Dignitaries, including top officials of the Lagos State government and white cap chiefs from the State, were already seated when the President cancelled his appearance following briefings on the tragedies,” he said.
The President desires that strict crows control be applied ehen this kind of events wamt to take place. The President also informed that measures should be applied whenever organisations wants to carry out charitable events.
The President was supposed to be at an event-the boat parade and other activities of Boat Regatta from Waterfront of his queen’s drive residence in Ikoyi.
Guest, dignitaries were already seated before they heard the President cancelled after hearing about all this tragedies. The President them wish that Lagos State government a successful event.
“He reiterated that these mishaps are avoidable if event planners adhere to necessary safeguards and protocols to ensure pre- and post-event safety,” the presidential spokesman said, passing his principal’s condolence to the victims of the incidents.
”In a season of joy and celebration, we grieve with fellow citizens mourning the painful losses of their loved ones. Our prayers of divine comfort and healing are with them,” President Tinubu said.
This tragedy has lead to the death of many. It happened at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitame, Abuja and at Community Centre, Okija Anambra. Not less than 10 people had been reported dear and many injured at Abuja.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the unfortunate incident which took place around 6:30 am, resulted in a stampede that claimed the lives of 10 individuals, including four children, and left 8 others with varying degrees of injuries.
